(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK web hosting and data center provider The Bunker (www.thebunker.net) announced on Thursday it has partnered with IT security provider CNS (www.cnsuk.co.uk) to offer its COMPLIANCEngine (www.compliancengine.com) and payment card industry compliance services alongside The Bunker’s data centers.

The move comes a few months after The Bunker completed a $3.2 million power upgrade project at its data center in Ash, Kent.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Google (www.google.com) announced on Thursday that it has released its Page Speed Service, a hosted solution that automatically speeds up loading of web pages.

Also on Thursday, the Senate’s anti-trust panel scheduled a hearing titled, ‘The Power of Google: Serving Consumers or Threatening Competition?’ for mid-September. The US Federal Trade Commission will look into complaints from Google’s rivals that allege it abuses its market dominance.

According to a blog post by Google engineering manager Ram Ramani, in order to use the service users need to sign up and point their site’s DNS entry to Google.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider Pacnet (www.pacnet.com) announced on Thursday it has invested in a new Data Landing Station in Hong Kong, with direct high-speed connectivity into Pacnet’s pan-Asian subsea cable network.

The move comes more than a year after Pacnet announced it would make a $300 million investment to build a data center network in Asia.

The new data center in Hong Kong is part of this strategic plan to expand its hosting and colocation infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for data center services across Asia Pacific.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Zayo (www.zayo.com) announced on Thursday that it has begun construction on its fiber network in Los Angeles to support data center connectivity for CoreSite Realty Corporation (www.coresite.com).

This announcement comes a month after CoreSite announced that global IP carrier TeliaSonera International Carrier established a PoP at its LA data center.

According to the press release, the Zayo fiber ring will consist of a high count of fiber cable to support the full suite of Zayo bandwidth and dark fiber services at CoreSite’s Southern California data centers.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Digital Realty Trust (www.digitalrealtytrust.com) announced Tuesday in its latest quarterly earnings report that it will be expanding its data center space in London, UK with the $21 million acquisition of a facility.

Though Digital Realty Trust did not disclose the exact location of the data center, it did say that the facility is 130,000 square feet, features 8 MW of power capacity and can support the development of five 1.44 MW data center PODs.

The company also bought out minority partner Skyrise Property for its Datacenter Park Dallas campus, following its previous 60 percent stake purchase in the property back in 2009.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) –Security solutions provider Symantec (www.symantec.com) announced on Thursday that it has issued more than 250 million SSL certificates.

This news comes a few weeks after Symantec acquired data backup and archiving firm Clearwell Systems.

Symantec says this milestone indicates the growing importance of security certificates in smart phones, tablets and other devices.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud automation solutions provider GBS Enterprises (www.gbs.com) announced on Thursday it has acquired data center operator IDC Global Networks (www.idcglobal.net). The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition will provide GBS with the infrastructure needed to provide a comprehensive end-to-end solution for all customers regardless of their platforms, said GBS.

IDC provides a range of solutions including colocation, hosting, managed services, network security, WAN, and wireless services.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — SSL certificate provider GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com) announced on Thursday that it has partnered with cloud software provider OnApp (www.onapp.com). With this partnership, GlobalSign will integrate its OneClickSSL technology into OnApp’s cloud deployment and management software.

This partnership comes a week after OnApp launched version 2.2 of its cloud management software for hosting providers.

According to the press release, the integration of OnApp and GlobalSign’s OneClickSSL will give hosting customers easy access to automated SSL provisioning and reselling.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator EdgeBCC (www.edgebbc.com), a subsidiary of hosting provider LightEdge Solutions (www.lightedge.com), announced on Wednesday it has secured $16 million of private equity from The Anschutz Investment Company and debt financing from US Bank.

The company will use the capital to double the capacity of its current data center operations in Altoona, Iowa and buyout the existing owners of the facility.

Through this transition, The Anschutz Investment Company, which is the parent company of LightEdge Solutions, will become the owner of record.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — DDoS mitigation provider Prolexic Technologies (www.prolexic.com) warned organizations in Asia, Europe and North America to be cautious as the magnitude of DDoS threats is likely to escalate over the next six to eight months.

On Wednesday the company announced that it had mitigated a major DDoS attack of “unprecedented size in terms of packet-per-second volume,” viewing this as an early warning of DDoS escalation.

According to the press release, the attack was directed against an unnamed Asian ecommerce company. Prolexic says the attack generated larger than normal TCP SYN Floods and ICMP Floods.
