(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SharkTec Hosting (www.sharketchosting.com) announced on Thursday that it has completed construction of its office in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This move marks the company’s first step into the South American market.

SharkTec initially announced its plans for expansion in July, and claims it chose the location for lack of web hosting providers available in the area.

The presentation, he says, is around several key trends that are of particular note to the hosting business, in colo pricing, managed hosting and cloud.

In colo pricing trends, he says a couple of things are causing the pricing curve to shift downward. First, he says that smaller colocation deals are moving toward managed solutions. Secondly, they’re seeing wholesale pricing applied to smaller and smaller colocation deals.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Oxford Networks (www.oxfordnetworks.com) announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Resilient Tier-V (www.resilientcom.com) to offer network and data center services.

Oxford Networks says it will invest $5 million into Resilient Tier-V as part of the agreement to help build out its data center at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station where it currently leases 66,000 square feet.

According to the press release, Oxford Networks and Resilient will create a data transmission, secure data storage and secure network management facility.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — InCommon (www.incommon.org) and Comodo (www.comodo.com) announced on Wednesday that they have issued tens of thousands of certificates to more than 120 colleges and universities across the United States.

According to the press release, InCommon and Comodo partnered a year ago to offer US universities and colleges with unlimited certificates for one annual fee. Subscribers may issue unlimited SSL certificates, including EV SSL and code signing certificates.

InCommon is a non-profit that provides the US research and higher education with a “framework of trust for the safe sharing of online resources.”

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Integra Telecom (www.integratelecom.com) announced on Wednesday it has invested more than $11 million in infrastructure and network upgrades in Colorado, Minnesota, Nevada and Washington.

This investment includes the addition of nine new colocations throughout the four states, enhancements to existing collocations in Colorado and Reno, Nevada, and a new IP softswitch in Reno.

According to the press release, these upgrades expand Integra’s service area around the new colocations and ensure that the company’s full suite of high-bandwidth products and services, including Ethernet over Copper, are available to businesses throughout its 11 state service area.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation and managed hosting provider The Bunker (www.thebunker.net) announced on Wednesday it has made a major network upgrade to its existing data center environment.

The move comes just a month after The Bunker upgraded its core network to 10Gb bandwidth capacity, as well as added more power capacity to its data center in Newbury, UK and added a new data hall within the existing bunker.

The evolution of The Bunker’s Brocade MLX Series routers is designed to provide future-proofing for clients during the IPv4 to IPv6 transition, deliver 10 Gigabit Ethernet performance and enable the company to stay ahead of increasingly bandwidth-intense applications, such as high-definition streaming media, according to the press release.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Google (www.google.com) announced on Wednesday that it will invest more than $200 million to build data centers in Asia.

This announcement comes weeks after Google released several reports exposing its data center energy consumption. Google says its data centers consume 50 percent less energy than the industry average.

According to the announcement, Google will build a data center in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. These facilities would be Google’s first fully-owned data centers in the Asia-pacific region, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the press release, SoftLayer’s new apps bring server and account management tools to its customers using these devices.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Wholesale data center operator Vantage Data Centers (www.vantagedatacenters.com) announced on Tuesday that it is under contract to purchase 63 acres of land for the development of a data center campus in Quincy, Washington.

According to the press release, the Vantage Washington Campus will develop in several phases and the first phase will include a 133,000 square foot data center.

Vantage says the 6MW enterprise class data center is vertically scalable to 9MW. Vantage says a Fortune 50 manufacturing and technology company has signed a lease to be the first company at the Washington campus.
