(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW)  — Security research firm McAfee predicts that cyberattacks involving political motivation or notoriety will become major threats in 2012, according to a report released Wednesday.

McAfee’s 2012 Threat Predictions report finds that mobile banking, “legal” spam and virtual currency will make headlines in the new year.

“Many of the threats that will become prominent in 2012 have already been looming under the radar in 2011,” Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs said in a statement. “Over the past year, the general public has become more aware of some of these risks, such as threats to critical infrastructure or the impact of hacktivism as they gain international media attention. In the meantime, we continue to see cybercriminals improving their toolkits and malware and are ready to make a significant impact in 2012.”

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK cloud hosting provider iomart Hosting announced last week it has provided a virtualized platform to help Misys consolidate its IT infrastructure in the UK.

The move comes a few months after iomart completed the second phase of its expansion at its Spectrum House, Maidenhead, UK data center.

Misys delivers application software and services for banking, treasury and capital markets. The company reviewed its hosting services this year and decided to partner with iomart Hosting.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting control panel creator cPanel announced this week it has launched the latest version of its Apache configuration script EasyApache.

The move comes a couple weeks after cPanel began integrating goMobi mobile website builder via its platform.

Version 3.8.2 has many improvements over the previous version including added support for mod_ruid2, a module that allows for increased PHP speed.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) –Web hosting provider KnownHost announced last week that it is offering its managed VPS and hybrid server customers a free upgrade to increase RAM and bandwidth.

This announcement comes about a week after KnownHost expanded its VPS offerings to a New Jersey data center.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center energy management provider Schneider Electric announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the intellectual property and software behind the Viridity EnergyCenter 2.0 platform, a DCIM management software.

This acquisition comes a month after Schneider Electric named Olivier Delepine its VP of the UAE and Gulf countries for APC by Schneider Electric.

According to the press release, the software enables the auto-discovery of IT assets to optimize capacity utilization. Schneider Electric says it will use this investment to improve the StruxureWare for Data Center Operations DCIM suite.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider PromptSpace announced over the weekend that it has launched its shared hosting platform.

PromptSpace says its shared hosting is available in three packages, personal, professional and enterprise, designed for small and mid-size enterprise customers.

According to the press release, in the past two years PromptSpace has grown from an Indian service provider to a provider with data centers in Kansas, Los Angeles, Dallas in the US and Kent in the UK.

 

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider CyrusOne announced on Tuesday it is building a data center in San Antonio, located in the Westover Hills business park.

The new data center will complete CyrusOne’s Texas expansion plans to have data center facilities in the four major commercial markets in the state.

The move comes a month after the company acquired a 175,000-square-foot data center site in Houston.
